Fundraiser for Fenian John W. Goff Memorial on April 27

The Fenian Memorial Committee is hosting a fundraiser in honor of Judge John W. Goff its friends at Jack Diamond's Pub in New York between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 27th. Proceeds will go towards putting a plaque on his grave in Westchester.

The Fenian John Goff was instrumental in the financing and planning of the great Catalpa Rescue, which saved six military Fenians from a slow death of penal servitude in Western Australia's infamous Fremantle Prison, where they had already languished for years.

“With your help over the years, we have found and placed headstones or memorials at all their graves throughout the USA (five of them had no headstones), along with that of their "Messenger" Father McCabe, who smuggled Fenian communication in and out of the prison prior to the Catalpa escape, eventually dying in exile in rural Minnesota,” said a notice from the committee.

John Goff never abandoned the Fenian ideal of a free Ireland while leading a distinguished career as an anti- corruption campaigner and judge in New York.

The event will include live Irish music and a talk by guest speaker Ruan O’Donnell, renowned author and commentator on Irish revolutionary history, including the development of the Fenian Brotherhood and the Irish Republican Brotherhood. Suggested donation is $20.
